COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Army National Guard, with 11,400 members throughout the state, has agreed to be the Naming Rights partner for the college football spring classic.   The event will now assume the new name - Ohio Army National Guard Senior Bowl II – which will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Crew Stadium.  Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

“I can’t think of a better organization to represent our event.  Loyalty, dedication, teamwork, and being true to ones self are the characteristics that not only represent the National Guard, but our participating seniors as well,” said Todd Oliver, President and CEO of GameDay Management and Owner of OhioCollegeFootball.com.

The Ohio Army National Guard Senior Bowl was created to showcase some of the best college football players within the State of Ohio.  The Senior Bowl features 90 of the top college football players from the NCAA I-A, II, III and NAIA.

“We are very excited to be a part of this event.  It is a great opportunity for the Guard to interact with an awesome group of college seniors,” said Maj. Phillip McGonagill, ONG officer recruiting and strength manager.

Thousands of passionate fans are expected to fill Crew Stadium for this year’s first Ohio Army National Guard Senior Bowl.  Last year, the North Team defeated the South by a touchdown, in what was an exciting defensive battle.

GameDay Management also announced that Franklin County Children Services will serve as the event charity.  Foster children, under the care of FCCS and other local agencies, will have the opportunity to attend the Senior Bowl free of charge.  Senior Bowl participants and coaches will provide a free football clinic, under the direction of FCCS, prior to the game.

Tickets for the Ohio Army National Guard Senior Bowl II will go on sale Wednesday, February 23 at the Columbus Crew ticket office or online at TicketMaster.com.  Presale tickets are $10.00 and $12.00 the day of the game.  To get more information about the Ohio Army National Guard Senior Bowl II, visit www.OhioCollegeFootball.com.

Coaches for OhioCollegeFootball.com Senior Bowl II Selected

Wednesday, February 9th 2011 @ 11:38 AM    post viewed 2499 times

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lee Owens and Henry Stanford will coach the OhioCollegeFootball.com Senior Bowl II, presented by the Ohio Army National Guard on April 23, 2011.

“We are thrilled to have two coaches that have achieved a lot of success in their college coaching careers,” said Todd Oliver, Owner of OhioCollegeFootball.com.  “As this event continues to grow, we felt it was extremely important to have Ohio college head coaches and their staffs involved on a personal level.  I can’t think of a better way then to have them coaching these outstanding seniors.”

Owens, who just finished his seventh season as the head coach at Ashland University, led the Eagles to an 8-3 record in 2010.  AU has advanced to the NCAA II playoffs twice (2007, 2008) under Owens’ leadership.

A Bluffton College graduate, all of Owens coaching stops have been in Ohio including Akron, Ohio State, and numerous high schools including a successful stint at Massillon.

“I was honored when OhioCollegeFootball.com asked me to consider coaching in the Senior Bowl,” commented Owens.  “Ohio has a proud college football tradition, and it is a great opportunity for myself and the AU football staff to coach the very best seniors in Ohio.  Our staff looks forward to coaching, one last time, a special group of AU Eagle football players who were in our 2011 senior class.”

“We also realize that our roster will be full of players who were committed to completing their college careers and had outstanding senior seasons.  The Senior Bowl will recognize and showcase these players and I'm excited to be a part of this game.”

Stanford, was named the 10th head coach at Capital University in March of 2010 after serving two seasons as an assistant coach.  While as an assistant at Capital he was named the OAC Assistant Coach of the Year after leading the Crusader offense that averaged 34 points per game and a 7-3 record.

Prior to Capital, Stanford coached at Elmhurt, Tiffin, Otterbein and was a student coach at Ohio State.  He also served as an intern coach for the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals in 2007.

"I would like to thank OhioCollegeFootball.com for selecting me and our staff to represent the South team,” said Stanford.  “It is an honor and privilege to work with some of the best football players in Ohio in their final collegiate football game."
