Rockets to Host Six Home Contests in 2010, Including Games vs. Arizona, Wyoming and Bowling Green

Monday, March 1st 2010 @ 4:30 PM    post viewed 310 times

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo announced its 2010 football schedule today, a slate that includes six home games and six road contests. The home-game highlights include contests vs. Arizona  on Friday, Sept. 3 (ESPN), a Homecoming matchup vs. Wyoming on Oct. 2 and a battle with rival Bowling Green on Wednesday, Nov. 17 (ESPN2 or ESPNU).

Toledo’s other three games in the Glass Bowl are vs. Kent State (Oct. 16), Ball State (Oct. 23) and Central Michigan (Nov. 26). The Rockets will travel to Purdue (Sept. 25) and Boise State (Oct. 9) for their remaining non-conference battles. The four road games vs. Mid-American Conference foes are at Ohio (Sept. 11), Western Michigan (Sept. 18), Eastern Michigan (Oct. 30) and Northern Illinois (Nov. 9 on ESPN2).

“Seven schools on our schedule played in bowl games last year, so it is clearly one of the most difficult schedules in the history of our program,” said head coach Tim Beckman. “But I know our players and coaches are excited for the challenge. The non-conference schedule will really give us a chance to measure our progress as a football team. We’re looking forward to hosting Arizona on national TV in the opening weekend of college football, as well as playing programs from around the country like Boise State, Purdue and Wyoming. I also think it’s a big plus that we could have as many as four regular-season games on national TV.”

The bowl teams on Toledo’s schedule include Boise State (14-0 in 2009); Arizona (8-5); Wyoming (7-6); Central Michigan (12-2); Ohio (9-5); Northern Illinois (7-6); and Bowling Green (7-6).

The Arizona game is the latest in a string of high-profile home contests for the Rocket football program. Recent non-conference opponents to have played in the Glass Bowl include Colorado (2009), Fresno State (2008), Purdue (2007), Iowa State (2007), Kansas (2006), Pittsburgh (2003) and Minnesota (2001). Toledo also served as the host school vs. Ohio State at Cleveland Browns Stadium in 2009. Future home matchups include Boise State (2011), Navy (2013), Missouri (2014) and Iowa State (2015).
