Todd Goebbel Named Offensive Coordinator At ODU

Monday, February 8th 2010 @ 3:05 PM    post viewed 595 times

ODU has also hired Todd Goebbel as its new Offensive Coordinator. Goebbel comes to Ohio Dominican from Marshall University, where he has been an assistant coach since 2005. He also was a quality control coach for The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and held assistant coaching positions for Quincy University, Tiffin University and the College of Wooster.

In college, Goebbel was a three-year starter as quarterback for Kent State University, in addition to being its team captain and most valuable player. In his senior year, he was starting quarterback for Northern Iowa University. Following college, he played for the Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League in 2000. He holds bachelor's degrees in Physical Education from Northern Iowa University; and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Quincy University.

"Todd Goebbel is one of the premier young offensive coordinators in the country," said Conley. "He not only has the knowledge but also the energy and enthusiasm all coaching staff needs in order to motivate players. Coach Goebbel will bring an exciting brand of offensive football to our program."

Bickel and Goebbel join ODU's football program during an exciting time in athletic program history. Currently affiliated with the National Association of Independent Athletics (NAIA), Ohio Dominican is in its second year as a candidacy member of the NCAA, with full membership in the NCAA Division II expected in 2011. In June 2009, ODU was accepted as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and will commence conference play effective August 2010. If accepted as a full NCAA member, ODU will be the only university in Central Ohio to be NCAA Division II.

"The addition of Jim Bickel and Todd Goebbel leading our defensive and offensive efforts, under the leadership of Head Coach Bill Conley, will help to move our university's football program into the national spotlight," said ODU Athletic Director Bill Blazer.

Blogging with OCF - Ohio Dominican Quarterback Billy Griffin

Billy Griffin - Quarterback
Senior - 6-3, 220

Major:  Communications

February 2010 - Hello again football fans and Happy New Year.  The beginning of this year was very exciting in college football with some great bowl games.  Now that all of the champions have been crowned and the hype has died down it is on to next season. Next season for us Panthers will bring in a new era as we have had a lot of interesting things happening at ODU since I last wrote on the website.  Coach Carlson resigned from Ohio Dominican and took the new head coaching job at Valparaiso University in Indiana.  All of us in the Panther program wish Coach the best of luck and will forever be thankful for everything he did for our football program. Leaving the program as well is Coach Joe Nemith, former defensive coordinator at ODU.  He has taken the defensive coordinator job at Otterbein College.  We also wish Coach Nemith and his family the best of luck with their new home.

Our athletic director Bill Blazer and his staff did a great job in finding the perfect person to step in and lead our team in our new transition into the GLIAC and competing at the Division II level. After a well thought out process our athletic department went with Coach Bill Conley, who most of you know played and coached at Ohio State for a number of years.  We are all extremely excited about Coach Conley coming to ODU.  He brings a new excitement and positive outlook to the wonderful game that we all know and love.

Off season workouts have started for the players but the coaches have been on the grind for quite some time.  Recruiting season is finally coming to an end as signing day approaches.  Recruiting has always been a high priority for us at ODU but with the addition of Coach Conley, who was once named by ESPN as the nation’s #1 recruiter, we are all a little more optimistic about receiving some of the best high school players to further their careers at ODU. We have seen some very good young men come to our campus and have total faith in our coaching staff to bring in the right guys to help our program succeed at the next level.

With the hiring of Coach Conley there has been the addition of some new faces to our coaching staff.  As of now the staff is not set in stone, so we as a team are just lifting and running hard to get better and prepare ourselves for spring ball.  We are in the weight room four days a week and have morning running twice a week.  By the end of this week we should know all of our coaches and then we will start to mentally prepare for spring ball as everything comes into place.

Good luck to all of those players who are preparing for the NFL Draft or any pro-days that are coming up in March, especially Doug Worthington and Jim Cordle.  I had the pleasure of hanging out with those two monsters at my internship with NBC4.  They were great guys to talk to and Jerod and I had a fun time working with them.  I also want to give a quick shout out to Coach Chris Arp at Reynoldsburg High School.  He did an amazing job getting me into shape for winter workouts and I will always go to him for advice on strength and conditioning.  Thanks Coach.

Until next time football fans, remember, it’s always a great day to be a Panther!

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Today, Ohio Dominican University head football coach Bill Conley announced the signing of another highly touted recruit, quarterback Jon Ballard of Austintown Fitch High School to accompany an already talented class of 2010.

Ballard was a 3-year starter at quarterback on the Falcons football team where he set nearly every passing record in school history. The 6-foot-3 signal caller set school records in passing yards for a season and career along with touchdown passes in a game, (5), season (17) and career (33). In his senior season Ballard passed for 1,354 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 869 yards and nine scores. Ballard was named to the Third Team All-State and earned First Team All-Federal League and All-Northeast Ohio in 2009. He was also selected as an Honorable Mention All-Federal League in 2008.

"We're excited that Jon has decided to become a Panther," said Conley. "He is one of the most talented and athletic quarterbacks in the Midwest. He's also an outstanding student in the classroom and is a true leader on and off the field," added Conley.

On February 3, 2010, ODU announce the signing of Jacob Allsop, defensive back, from Wyoming, Ohio; Mark Miller, quarterback, from Cincinnati, Ohio; and Shawn Richter, wide receiver, from Eastlake, Ohio as the first group of commitments of 2010 class.
