Cincinnati Announces 2010 Football Schedule

Wednesday, February 10th 2010 @ 9:24 PM    post viewed 208 times

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics announced a 12-game 2010 football schedule for the two-time defending BIG EAST Conference Champions.

The schedule features seven home games, six at Nippert Stadium and one at Paul Brown Stadium (Oklahoma), one first-time opponent (NC State), and four nationally-televised games (NC State, Louisville, USF, Pittsburgh).

“Our schedule presents many great challenges and opportunities for our football program,” head coach Butch Jones said. “Having the ability to play a tradition-rich program like Oklahoma in front of our fans at Paul Brown Stadium is a great opportunity as well as playing in some very challenging venues not only in BIG EAST play, but also at Fresno State and NC State. We are looking forward to taking the next step in developing our football identity for the 2010 season on March 17 when spring football starts.”

The Bearcats, who set a school record with 12 wins in 2009 – the first undefeated regular season in program history – will face seven teams who played in postseason bowls a year ago.

The non-conference foes include matchups at Fresno State (Sept. 4), the home opener against Indiana State (Sept. 11), a trip to Raliegh, N.C. to face the Wolfpack in a Thursday night primetime ESPN game (Sept. 16), a game against Oklahoma at Paul Brown Stadium (Sept. 25), and the 115th Battle For The Victory Bell against Miami (OH).

UC opens BIG EAST play on the road for the second-straight season, taking on Louisville for the Keg of Nails in a Friday night ESPN game (Oct. 15). UC faces a second-straight Friday-night matchup a week later against USF on ESPN2 (Oct. 22) before closing out the two-game homestand against Syracuse (Oct. 30). After a bye week, the Bearcats travel to West Virginia (Nov. 13), welcome Rutgers to Nippert Stadium (Nov. 20), travel to Connecticut (Nov. 27), and close out the regular season against Pittsburgh at home (Dec. 4) on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

Game times and other television opportunities will be announced at a later date. The Bearcats will begin spring practice on March 17 and close out the 15-practice session with Bearcat Bowl IV, set for April 24, 2010 at Nippert Stadium.
