URBANA, Ohio (January 25, 2010) - The Urbana University athletic department announced today that the football program has agreed to join the Great Lakes Football Conference through the 2011 season. Beginning this fall, the Blue Knights will enter a scheduling alliance with the four schools that make up the GLFC. These four schools currently include Central State University, St. Joseph's College, Missouri S&T University, and Kentucky Wesleyan College. Each school will be included in Urbana's 2010 and 2011 football schedules.
After a year as an NCAA Division II independent, Urbana will again have an opportunity to earn conference awards while competing for a championship. St. Joseph's College won the GLFC crown in 2009, finishing a perfect 4-0 in the conference. Meanwhile, Urbana tied the best record in school history at 6-5 under 2nd year Head Coach David Taynor.
