Thursday, February 11th 2010 @ 4:12 PM
Columbus, Ohio – Former two-time ArenaBowl MVP Matt D’Orazio has been named the head coach of the OhioCollegeFootball.Com Senior Bowl South Team. He replaces Bill Conley, who was recently named the head coach at Ohio Dominican University.
D’Orazio, a native of Columbus, Ohio, attended Otterbein College after transferring from Youngstown State, where he passed for 8,770 yards and 73 touchdowns during his collegiate career.
“We are excited to announce Matt as our head coach for the South Team,” said Todd Oliver, Executive Director of the OhioCollegeFootball.Com Senior Bowl. “Anyone who knows Matt - knows first and foremost that he is a great person, with a lot of integrity, and passion for the game of football. No question he will bring a wealth of energy and knowledge to the sideline.”
In 2006, after playing for the Columbus Destroyers for three seasons, he was signed as a free agent by the Chicago Rush. At the end of the 2006 season, he led the league as the top-rated passer and the top rusher with 200 yards and 10 touchdowns. In ArenaBowl XX, he threw for 250 yards and six touchdowns, as well as rushing for three. He was named Offensive Player of the Game for his performance.
After being released by the Chicago Rush, D’Orazio signed with the Philadelphia Soul and became the starting quarterback when Tony Graziani went down with a season ending injury. D’Orazio was voted the AFL MVP for the season while leading Philadelphia to ArenaBowl XXII, where they defeated the San Jose SaberCats 59-56, and was named MVP for the game, as well. He is one of only two players to be named MVP of the ArenaBowl while playing for two different teams.
In February of 2009, the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League signed D’Orazio. He was released in June of 2009.
Tickets for the Saturday, April 17, 2010 Inaugural OhioCollegeFootball.com Senior Bowl will be available online at www.OhioCollegeFootball.Com after March 1 or at any Ohio Rooster’s Wings locations.
