I believe coaches typically have the more accurate poll, although in this case the media poll is a better indicator of where these teams fall withing the OAC.
I have a problem with Otterbein getting a first place vote in the coaches poll, first of all they're Otterbein and secondly Mt. Union undoubtably deserves all such votes. Sure the Cardinals got through the OAC last season, but they caught a lot of people off gaurd. Proof they cannot win the OAC, regardless of Jack who?, is that they went one and done in the playoffs, an embarassement by OAC standards, and the conference will respect them this year after finally having a season worth talking about.
Capital being 4th in the media, when they were a terrible and extremely predictable team last sesason, even if they did have injuries, is a problem. They will be in the bottom half.
A darkhorse prediction could be having any one of the bottom five teams in the Media poll finish 3rd or 4th. Maybe Heidelberg? Maybe JCU now that they've finally gotten rid of that QB they've had for the last 7 years, who was almost as big a _ as Rocky Pentello.
Lastly, the Polar Bears. Typically a tough program and they have had a lot of changes within, which could lead to a great season. The media played it safe placing them in the middle of the pack. According to 'technical data' the Ohio Northern program has been on a downfall, almost internal combustion and is still lead by the same man, so we'll see if recent trends continue.
Top to bottom the OAC is still a premeir conference in D-3. |
