Interesting topic. Of course leave it to David to come up with something cleaver on the subject.

To be honest, I have only heard of one coach that might be on the hot seat and out of respect to him and the program I will not mention names.

I would be surprised if there are any coaching changes in the off season unless it's a step up for someone. Many of the coaches are new and/or their programs are heading in the right direction.

Just my take on the subject.

I was quite surprised today. No crying, and respect given to the winner for playing better(I don't think I need to mention which game). Thanks for not mentioning the coach. I might be unhappy if it was one of my favorites and some coaches have just been thrust into some tough situations this year.

Richald - Those are interesting programs you listed. Didn't Findlay have one of their best years since the NAIA days last season at 7-4?

Sure, Findlay was 7-4 last year, but they are 1-7 now and looking at 1 and whatever for 2010 with Ashland, Hillsdale, and Wayne State their remaining games. With D-1 transfers Beam (BGSU) at QB and Chambers (Minnesota) at WR and GLIAC freshman of the year Monterea Williams at RB, the UF offense was quite productive. This year ... not so much ... since there is no threat in the passing game due to inexperience at QB (Zelaskiewicz and DeJerrian are decent receivers - there's just no one to get them the ball until lately). Tennessee-Martin transfer Soli started at QB last week and got them a spark on O (the basically doubled their offensive output for the year in one game).

In 2008, Findlay's offense struggled as they could not find a starte, and ended-up 'burning' the redshirt of promising frosh Noonan at QB - in his only game at AU, he set numerous Findlay passing records. He was benched in 2009 as Beam was brought in. Obviously disgruntled, he left the program.

The recurring theme here (lately) seems to be the need to 'pull a rabbit out of the hat' each pre-season with a great D-1 transfer QB - Waufford didn't get it done this season, as D-1 traveller Clay Belton (Miami and Maryland) wasn't enrolled soon enough to be eligible - so Findlay has struggled with frosh QB Zach Tate at the controls, and finally started Soli last week in a loss to Lake Erie.

It seems to me that some better decisions in supporting the talent already there (specifically Noonan) would have avoided this very disappointing season for the Oilers since they did return some solid offensive linemen, Williams at RB and a good WR corps.

Whether or not Waufford pays for these mistakes with his job this season are debatable at this point ... but he needs to get the ship pointed in the right direction soon (next season) or I would expect he should be concerned about his tenure at UF.

2007 - 5-6

2008 - 2-9

2009 - 7-4

2010 - 1-7 (or worse?)

It is time for Walsh's Head Coach to call it quits.   New blood is needed to bring discipline and character to this great university.   Out of control players on the side lines show no class. I heard a great coach say today. Teams get better with good coaches, teams are great when players have good character and show respect. There is more to being a star than having talent, being a postitive role model for those who look up to you makes you a star. What happened on the side lines at St Xavier and the past weekend should be grounds for dismissal from the team especially from a senior.

First, yes they got beat. St Xavier is a top notch program, well coached and a talented team that is always in the top 5. Since they do go to the playoffs they are able to attract top athletes and have more money.   So it was going to take sorry to say a miracle. With all the injuries Walsh had in key positions they were not at their best, conditions were windy makes it hard for a first time starting freshman quarterback. But when a player has a beef with a coach, you address that in a respectful manner, but cursing at him and getting in his face on the sideline so all the fans to see and hear, and then turning to the stands and doing the same to them is outrages. Throwing your helmet can be forgiven, but should be corrected by the coaching staff, a senior should be a role model. Then rumors have it, the disrespect continued on the journey home and at the next team gathering with these same players showing up well what you say they should not have driven to school. What do you say would be the punishment for these players? What message are sending to the underclassman? Yes the play calling is questionable but has always been. The opposing team calling out your plays before the play is even ran, blocking scemes from the 70's, team captains are named after the season is over, so there is no leadership throughout the season and no team alot of I's. If a player is hurt and can not function at 100% they need to recognize it is not about them it is about team, and coaches should recognize it also when a player is limping to a spot or running a reverse there has to be someone else on a team of 100 players, they found one in the running back position to fill in for the past 3 years, Tallman, Williams, Bechler and they excelled. That is part of recruiting. If you are going to compete in the DII level something needs to change and soon.
