Ashland's Eagles dominated Ohio Dominican and cruised to their 6th straight win, winning 44 to 15 at Panther Field.
Eagle junior RB DJ McCoy scored a TD and eclipsed 100 yards for the 6th consecutive game, getting 102 yards on 25 carries.
The Panthers' RB Mike Noffsinger set the ODU single season rushing yardage record at 712 yards with his effort of 123 yards on 17 carries.
AU senior WR Joe Horn set a new career TD reception record at 24, as he compiled 167 yards on 8 catches including a 23-yard TD. Teammate Christian Livingston had 2 TD catches of 1 and 9 yards.
AU's defense was also productive, forcing 4 turnovers - INTs by senior LB Quinton Scott, junior LB Jacob Lerman and junior DB Logan Kerr (his 6th on the season and 4th in as many games) and a 45-yard fumble return for a TD by senior safety Tarell Lewis.
The only real AU miscue of the day was a blocked punt in the endzone by ODU frosh TE Nate Weeks that resulted in a safety.
Ashland hosts Lake Erie at Senior Day on Nov 13 for the "Ohio Championship" with the winner getting GLIAC D-2 bragging rights in the Buckeye State. LEC is on a three game winning streak, with wins over Findlay (48-45), ODU (30-15) and Tiffin (31-27). For their part, AU is on a 6-game winning streak, with decisive wins over those in-state opponents, by a margin of 149-22.
LEC QB Sean Bedevelsky, who was the GLIAC and D-2football.com Offensive Player of the Week with his performance against Findlay on Oct 25, did not play this week against Tiffin. Versus Findlay, Bedevelsky completed 34-of-50 passes for 441 yards - all career highs and school single-game records - for four touchdowns and rushed for 59 yards and two more scores to help rally the Storm from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit.
It will be interesting to see if Bedevelsky will be healthy for the tilt with Ashland, and if not, if the Storm will be able to keep pace with the prolific Eagle offense (LEC is 10th in the GLIAC in total D.) Storm soph QB Matt Krumpak threw only 18 times against Tiffin and the Storm relied heavily on the running game to eke-out the win over the Dragons. Ashland's defense is number 2 in the conference, while Lake Erie sports the GLIAC's second best offense.
Should make for an interesting game at Jack Miller Stadium starting at 1PM this Saturday. |
